Hi I’m Trudi — dog trainer, behaviour consultant, emotional support human (for dogs and their people), and the slightly scruffy heart behind Completely Mutz Dog Training.
I help people reconnect with their dogs — not through quick fixes or punishment, but by understanding who their dogs really are and what they’re trying to tell us.
I work with people who are struggling, frustrated, emotional, overwhelmed — because I’ve been there myself.
I live near Llandysul in beautiful West Wales with my two wonderful staffie crosses, Reggie and Teddy, both adopted from Dogs Trust Ilfracombe. One of them has given me more sleepless nights than I care to count — and taught me more than any course ever could.
So yes, I get it. And I’m here to help.
My job is to help you and your dog feel better. And have fun while doing it.
Too often, dog owners feel pressure to have the “perfect dog” — one that can go everywhere, meet every dog, and stay calm no matter what.
But dogs are individuals. Not every dog is a social butterfly. Not every dog is comfortable in a busy world. And not every behaviour needs “fixing.”
What your dog needs is understanding. And so do you.
I help you look beyond the behaviour to understand the emotion and environment behind it — so you can support your dog, not just “fix” them.
Whether you’ve got a whirlwind puppy, a nervous rescue, or a shouty adolescent, I’ll help you tune into what’s going on emotionally and physically — and show you how to move forward in a kind, positive and practical way.
“When you start seeing your dog in a new light, everything changes — for both of you.”
I’m a positive reinforcement trainer through and through — promoting kind, ethical, force-free and fear-free training. I believe training should be about communication, connection and choice — not control.
Training should be fun. Behaviour change should feel possible. You deserve support that feels good for both you and your dog — with no judgment, ever.
I’ll be honest with you about what’s going on, what’s possible, and how to get there — step by step. I’ll cry with you when it’s hard, and celebrate with you when things go right. (Sometimes in the same session.)
Because I get it. And we figure it out together.
My love of dogs started young — growing up with border collies and feeling a bit uneasy at traditional training classes where fear and force were the norm. Even as a kid, it didn’t sit right with me.
My training journey started in 2002 in North Devon with a border collie pup called Midge. I was looking for a better way to train than the fear-based methods I’d seen as a kid. When I discovered reward-based training, it was like a lightbulb moment.
I met a brilliant clicker trainer. I trained, assisted as a trainer at North Devon's first dog training school, I volunteered, I studied… then moved to France, ran a snowboard chalet (long story!), came home and back to corporate life. Until I had my “what am I doing with my life” moment.
That’s when I said: no more spreadsheets. I’m following my passion.
I studied with Sarah Whitehead, started a diploma in Canine Training & Behaviour, volunteered at Dogs Trust, and launched Completely Mutz in 2018. Reggie and Teddy joined me soon after. They are my heart dogs, my teachers, and the reason I now work the way I do.
I’ve worked with hundreds of wonderful dogs and their people. This work is my passion. Helping people and their dogs feel seen, understood, and supported — that’s what drives me
And I keep learning. I learn from every single dog I meet and from their humans. I attend seminars, enrol on courses, add to my massive book collection. I invest loads of time and money into continuing my professional development because offering you the most up-to-date, science-backed support is what matters most.
Everything I do is about helping people and dogs understand each other better. Helping you feel calmer, more confident, and more connected to your dog.
Because this is a lifelong relationship — not a six-week obedience crash course. And I’d love to help you enjoy it.
If you’ve got a dog who’s driving you bonkers, breaking your heart, or just needs some support to thrive — let’s talk.
